Down by the River (II)

Hi everybody.

How are you?

I decided to go to the river this morning. I didn't stay long or take many pictures because it is unpleasantly windy and cold. But still, there were moments of calm and serenity. I heard a brown creeper in the woods, and I watched a huge flock of hundreds of some kind of white bird migrating up the river, occasionally skimming the surface for bugs or fish or something. I couldn't tell what they were. Probably some kind of gull, but the wings were tern-like. I wish I had my binoculars with me.

A few photos from my walk:

Obligatory fungus pic.
Ice.

Heron rookery.

Pretty cardinals.
More ice.
Daredevil squirrel.
I love that I can be at the river in less than 20 minutes.

It was so windy that there were actual whitecaps. If it wasn't so cold, it would have been super fun to kayak. Then I could have gotten a closer look at those white birds!

Today is Presidents Day, and that makes me sad. There are protests planned across the country today. I hope they are HUGE and peaceful. My family members have asked me not to go to the one in DC, so I've decided to stay home and go to a very small one here in town. I will be able to walk, and there are lots of places to stop for coffee and snacks. I hope the wind calms down a little.

Please read Heather Cox Richardson today, and take some kind of action, no matter how big or small.

Onward.
